As one of the best Columbia River fishing guides in Oregon, I specialize in Sturgeon fishing, Salmon fishing, Steelhead fishing, Shad fishing, and Walleye fishing on the Columbia River, Willamette River, Tillamook Bay, Yaquina River, Siletz River, and the Nehalem River.
Crabs are generally caught by using crab pots or rings. You simply lower the baited (use chicken, fish, turkey, etc) rings or pots into the water, wait about 5 - 7 minutes, pull them up and see what you have. If they come up empty, move them to a different spot and try again. The ideal spots are the ones with little current. You can leave the crab pots in the water for a bit longer than the rings.
Fly fishing is exciting and can be hot all day long.

Maybe you are into catching the next world record Walleye. Most experts agree that Walleye will come from the Columbia River.
If King Salmon or Silver Salmon is high on your list for fishing, the Columbia & the Oregon coast river's have huge runs of Salmon that are second only to some Alaska rivers with Chinook or King Salmon over 60 pounds & Coho or Silver Salmon up to 25 pounds.
One of the most popular fish is the Spring Chinook Salmon & is without a doubt the best eating Salmon in the world. We can catch them right in downtown Portland. Steelhead can weigh up to 20 pounds.
