Burnside Bridge Skate Park
Burnside
Skate Park, was built without permission, by skateboarders and later
sanctioned by the city. Burnside's unique growth and evolution, through the
sweat and blood of a handful of dedicated skateboard individuals, has
matured into one of the best skate parks in the world.

Burnside
and its creators are true pioneers, setting the stage for community built
skate parks across the country. Like a magnifying glass in the sun, Burnside
Skate Park can witness a concentration of skill levels unmatched anywhere.
You can see crazy things there. Go, watch, learn, be humbled, excited, and
inspired.
Designed, built in 1990, and maintained today by individual members of the
Dreamland Team, it remains one of the skateboarding world's most revered,
challenging, and highly respected locations. Burnside is featured
internationally in the skateboarding media on a near monthly basis.

Its
landscape is featured in the best selling Tony Hawk Pro Skater video game
and is a must skate location for professionals everywhere. Tony Hawk himself
considers it among his 5 favorite skate parks (USA Today - May 5, 2003).
Location
It is
located underneath the Burnside Bridge on the east side of the Willamette
River. Burnside is public, free, and has no pad requirements however, it is
subject to periodic review by the city. Park on the street only and not in
adjacent private lots. Please respect yourself and others.
Scenic Oregon

Portland Oregon blends scenic treasures
and offers many pleasures for the young, old, and every age in between. It
has natural beauty amid skyscrapers trees and green spaces. Summers in
Portland bring long sunny days and mild temperatures that easily linger
long into October, hence what is called our Indian Summers.

Portland has some incredible orange sunrises sunsets and is at the top
of many best lists such as: Best Big City by Money Magazine, America's
Cleanest Cities, America's Best Eating Destinations, Top 10 Dog and
Bicycle Friendly Cities and in the top 25 of America's Most Fit Cities.

Portland is a great starting point for unlimited outdoor destinations.
In about 1½ hours you can be enjoying our beautiful Pacific Coast. In
less than an hour you can reach the top of majestic Mt Hood and spend
some quality time in the world famous Mt. Hood Lodge. Mt Hood offers
many summer and winter activities.

Also, if wine is among your interests, in
less than an hour you can be touring our many vineyards and wineries
south of Portland in our unique Willamette Valley.
Fun Rides For All Ages In
Portland
A must see/do list in Portland would include all 3 of our
trains/trams/and trolleys.
Streetcar History
The City of Portland, Oregon is noted for the dramatic revitalization of
its downtown core. In the 1960s, Portland, like many other cities
throughout the U.S., was threatened by loss of residents, businesses and
capital. Suburban housing developments, shopping areas, and business
parks were draining the vitality from the city center.

The Portland Streetcar system is one more
important transportation decision that has enhanced Portland’s vitality
while helping the city accommodate new residential and business growth.

The "Pill Hill" tram as it is called
connects the southern water front activities with the medical hospitals
and clinics located directly above that area.

They run about every 12
minutes and you can do the complete up and down trip in about 1/2 hour.
It soars 600 ft above the rooftops and offers vistas never seen before.
If you are afraid of heights you had better have someone to hang on to
but it will be worth the trip.

Our infamous "Zooliner" train runs around Washington Park and the
Zoo. It is a scaled down replica and is open aired. This is a favorite
ride for adults and children and not to be missed during you trip up the
hill to the Zoo!

Today, however, Portland’s central city is
one of the most admired in North America. Many things contributed to
this turnaround, but one key factor was an emphasis on transit and
cooperative planning for transportation and land uses. Some examples of
changes in the 60s and 70s that led to Portland’s status as a highly
livable city are:
1. Establishment of TriMet, a public regional transit agency with new
buses and a 12-block downtown transit mall
2. Elimination of a freeway along the Willamette River where a popular
public park now sits.
3. A decision not to build a freeway that would have destroyed housing
in established Portland neighborhoods.
4. State and local support for MAX, the regional light rail service
which now links suburban communities more than 33 miles apart to each
other as well as to downtown Portland. A 5.5-mile spur to the Portland
International Airport opened in fall of 2001 and a 5.8-mile spur opened
north to EXPO in May 2004.
